Puppet Parade – Stick Puppets - Class 1 of 4
In this Puppet Parade class series you will learn to make puppets out of everyday items and experiment with telling stories! For this first class you will learn to make stick puppets and listen to familiar tale: "The Three Little Pigs." You are invited to create your own stick puppets and tell your own version of this story!
Materials:
- Card stock or other stiff paper
- Craft sticks or straws, or other types of “sticks”
- Glue Sticks
- Scissors
- Crayons
- Masking tape
This is a list of materials for creating standard stick puppets. The puppet you create can also be made of other items as demonstrated in the video. Use your creativity, imagination, and the supplies you have access to. Look in your junk drawer, wrapping paper box, craft box, and recycle box for inspiration! Have fun!
The Three Little Pigs
Listen to Darrin and his neice, Emily, tell the story of "The Three Little Pigs." Notice that they are telling their version of the story. Try your hand at telling the story using the stick puppets you have created. Perhaps you want to add some scenery, as appears in this video.
If you want to build a theatre to tell your story, here is a resource for one way to do that. Notice that Darrin used his couch to create his theatre.
Don’t forget to take the Storyteller’s Pledge before you begin:
As a storyteller and a story listener, we give permission to have fun, to take risks, to make mistakes, to tell stories! We know stories connect us, and we are connected to story. Let the stories begin! Let the stories begin!
